Obituary

William G. Thompson (Bill), 92 of Crawfordsville died early Thursday morning at home after a short illness.

He was born November 18, 1927 to Roy D. and Emma B. Thompson.

He was married to the former Nellie Calvert.

He is survived by his wife, Nellie Thompson; four children, Vivienne (Mike) Surber and Bruce of Crawfordsville; Bob (Melissa) of Forest, Ohio and Donna Mitchell of Brownsburg; five grandchildren, Jessica Surber Bonebrake of Fort Stuart, Hinesville, Georgia, Air Force Master Sergeant Matthew Thompson stationed in England, Army Captain Jonathon Thompson stationed in Fort Drum, New York, Andrew of Neveda, Ohio and Ian of Findley, Ohio, ten great grandchildren and a brother, Richard (Camille) of Cicero.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three sisters, Ellen Mason, Edith May McGuffie and Beulah Thompson.

He served in the U.S. Army from January 11, 1946 to July 12, 1947.  After discharge from the Army, he enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in Japan for four years.  He was trained as a diesel mechanic and radar schooling.

He worked for Ingress Plastene for ten years then went to work at Detroit Diesel Allison (GM) where he retired in 1993 after 32 years.

Bill loved to travel and enjoyed many family vacations. He also loved to do home improvement projects and did many updates of the residence of 54 years and loved helping family members with projects. He could often be found helping with projects at his church and the church parsonage.

He was a long time member of the First Church of the Nazarene and was a faithful attender until his health declined to the point he could no longer go.

He was a member of the Crawfordsville American Legion.

Visitation will be from noon to 2:00 PM Monday, July 27 th at Burkhart Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 2:00 PM with Pastor Josh Jones officiating.  Burial with military honors will be at the Russellville Cemetery.
