William F. "Bill" Woodall, 87, of rural Crawfordsville, peacefully passed away Tuesday afternoon at home.

Bill served his country in the U.S. Air Force.  After his service, he became an air traffic controller, then went to work for the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) in 1967 and was soon assigned to Montgomery County.  Over the span of his career as conservation officer, he became a well-respected officer in the state of Indiana.  He was a national pioneer in developing the Indiana Underwater Rescue and Recovery Program.  He also enjoyed serving as a hunter's education instructor.  Bill retired from the DNR in 1994 and was honored with the Sagamore of the Wabash Award.  Starting in the early 1970s he became a licensed real estate agent, eventually becoming owner and operator of Woodall Realty in Crawfordsville.  He was a founding member of the Montgomery County Chapter of Ducks Unlimited in 1996 and served as a board member for over 10 years.  He was also a member of Pheasants Forever, Friends of Sugar Creek, the Crawfordsville and Darlington American Legion.

Born April 11, 1938 in Qulin, Missouri, he was the son of William Woodall and Mary Marie Woodall.  He married the former Cindy Lou Servies on Feb. 12, 1994.  She survives.

Surviving family includes: wife, Cindy Woodall of rural Crawfordsville; four sons, Mike Woodall of Louisiana, Mitch Woodall of Jacksonville, Florida, Billy Woodall of Jacksonville, Florida and Jeff Woodall (Amy) of Crawfordsville; two brothers, Tommy (Alice) and Johnny Woodall, both of Cape Girardeau, Missouri; fifteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a grandson, Mitchell "Woody" Woodall, his parents, four sisters and one brother.

Visitation will be from 10 AM to 1 PM Saturday, Aug. 16th at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville.  Services will begin at 1 PM, led by Pastor Brian Holt.  After the service, he will be laid to rest with military and DNR Honors at Oak Hill Cemetery South.
