Obituary

Wayne Tate of Crawfordsville graduated from this Earth to the arms of Jesus on Heaven's bright shore, joining his bride, on Saturday afternoon. He was 88.

Wayne served in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 as a staff sergeant during the Korean War.  He earned Bachelor's and Master's degrees from Indiana State University.  In 1958 he began his career teaching business for three years at Crawfordsville High School, coaching golf. Following this, he accepted the position of Business Manager for the Crawfordsville School Corp., which he held for 39 years, retiring July 1, 2000.  After his retirement he worked for Tanner Insurance.

He was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, where he served as treasurer and usher.  He was active in the Alpha Chi Sunday School class and Keenagers.  He was also a member of the Rotary Club and the Association of School Business Officials.

Born Nov. 27, 1932 in Princeton, Indiana, he was the son of Oral Tate and Mary Sinkhorn Tate.  He married Rosalyn Gladish on Aug. 23, 1953 in Oakland City, Indiana.  She passed away June 23, 2018.

Surviving family includes: son, Tim Tate (Jo) of Parrish, Florida; daughter, Tammy Scott (Dean) of Bringhurst, Indiana; four grandchildren, Jeff Tate, Justine Macmac (Robby), Jordan Scott (Quinci), Hannah Abbott (Skylar); four great-grandchildren, Riley Macmac, Dakota Macmac, Ian Tate Scott, Masen Abbott and one more one the way.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalyn Tate, parents and two brothers, John Tate and Jim Tate.

Visitation will be Saturday, Oct. 2 at First Baptist Church, 1905 Lebanon Road, Crawfordsville, from 11 AM to 1 PM.  Services will begin at 1 PM, led by Pastor Isaac Zull.  Entombment will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery Mausoleum.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alpha Chi Sunday School class at First Baptist.
