Obituary

Shirley M. Sargent of Crawfordsville passed away Wednesday morning at home.  She was 67.

Mrs. Sargent was a member of the First Assembly of God, first in Rensselaer and later in Morocco, Indiana.  She was a homemaker and housekeeper for the Newton County Council on Aging.  She liked to collect baskets and put up Christmas decorations.

Born Oct. 10, 1952 in Gary, Indiana, she was the daughter of Carl E. Andis and Marjorie L. Lowe Andis.  She attended elementary school at Mount Ayr, where she was a cheerleader, then Morocco High School.  She married Hale Sargent on April 19, 1974 in Morocco.  He survives.

Surviving family includes: husband, Hale Sargent of Crawfordsville; grandson, Dakota Martin of Rensselaer; two sisters, Pat Brammer of Kentland, Linda Bounty of Lafayette; five half-sisters, Sandra Belt of Kentucky, Linda Colee of West Lafayette, Debra Hall of Union, Missouri, Nina Pipes of Kentland and Brenda Whicker of North Vernon; one half-brother, David Denton of Missouri.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Patricia L. Martin, half-brother, Jack and step-brother, Norm Smits.

There will not be any public visitation or service.  Her family will hold a private graveside service at the Oakland Cemetery in Morocco, Indiana.  Arrangements were made through Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville.
