Obituary

Samuel J. Monroe of Crawfordsville finished his job on earth and passed peacefully at home on Monday afternoon.  He was 61.

Sam had been a hoist driver for LSC Communications the past ten years.  He loved to play golf and go fishing.  He was a huge fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Iowa Hawkeyes. Sam also enjoyed listening to music and going to concerts, of which he attended hundreds.  Sam also enjoyed travelling. Most importantly, he loved his family immensely and enjoyed the time he spent with them.

Born Sept. 15, 1959 in Waterloo, Iowa, Sam was the son of Ronald Monroe and Barb Marmie Monroe.  He graduated from Denver High School in Denver, Iowa.  He married the former Jeannie O'Connor.  She survives.

Surviving family includes: wife, Jeannie Monroe; three sons, Joel Monroe, Cam Monroe (Ellen) and Christopher White; two sisters, Diane Schmadeake and Liz Haugen.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Joel.

There will not be any public services.  A small gathering of family and friends to remember him will take place at home.  In lieu of flowers, a GoFundMe page has been set up to help offset medical expenses from his battle with cancer. The GoFundMe page can be found by searching "Remembering Sam Monroe" on GoFundMe.com.  Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.  Online condolences may be made at www.BurkhartFH.com .
