Robert A. "Bob" Smiley, Jr. DVM

December 14, 1942 to December 21, 2024

Bob was born on December 14, 1942 in Crawfordsville. He was the son of Robert A. and Margaret Everson Smiley. He graduated from Crawfordsville high school in 1961 and from Purdue University School of Agriculture in 1965. He taught agriculture and was the FFA adviser at Poseyville High School for one year. He entered Purdue School of Veterinary Medicine and graduated in 1970. He was elected to the veterinary honor society, Phi Zeta, his junior year of school and was selected as the top large animal student of his graduating class. Bob was a member of First Baptist Church in Crawfordsville.

He married Janet Steele on July 27, 1969. He began his veterinary career with Dr. Jim Schlosser. He later opened his own practice as the Crawfordsville Veterinary clinic. He retired in 2013.

He was self sufficient after his mother's death when he was fourteen years old. He was welcomed into his wife's family as a son. He loved his family.

He is survived by his wife, Janet Steele Smiley; his daughter Jennifer Veatch and her husband, Tim; his son Jason Smiley and his wife Ashli; and granddaughter, Sidney Veatch and Chelsea Veatch; his brother-in-law Wayne Steele and his family; and his cousin Carolyn Surface Snyder.

A celebration of life will take place on Friday, December 27, starting at 11:30 am at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W Wabash Ave, Crawfordsville, IN.
