Richard L. Branstetter, formerly of Crawfordsville passed away Thursday morning at the Gibson Family Center for Hospice Care in Terre Haute. He was 92.
Mr. Branstetter worked at R. R. Donnelley for over 40 years, starting as a journeyman bookbinder and retiring as a foreman. He had a passionate creative outlet through woodworking where his self-taught style created incredible furniture and allowed him to show his artistic side. He was also an avid golfer and member of the Crawfordsville Country Club. His memberships also included the First United Methodist Church of Crawfordsville and the Darlington American Legion.
Born Jan. 28, 1927, he was the son of Richard Zoy Branstetter and Edith L. Peterson Branstetter. He graduated from Darlington High School and entered the U. S. Army, working as a surgical technician at several hospitals. He was married to Carolyn May Schultz on Dec. 29, 1951 by Rev. A. L. Vermillion in Jamestown. She passed away June 10, 2013.
Surviving family includes: two daughters, Patricia West (Douglas) of Terre Haute, and Linda Branstetter of Albuquerque, NM; granddaughter, Michelle Steele (Matthew) of Lafayette; grandson, Christopher Teets (Melanie Mosher) of Indianapolis; and two step-grandchildren, Kyle West and Alison West, both of Terre Haute.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, Max, Marvin and Jack Branstetter, and four sisters, Martha Peebles, Mary Hayes, Joan Vermillion and Joyce Lidikay.
Visitation will be from 9 to 11 AM Thursday, Oct. 31 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Avenue, Crawfordsville. Services with military honors will begin at 11 AM, followed by burial at Greenlawn Cemetery in Darlington.
