Michael J. "Mike" Crooks

Michael J. "Mike" Crooks of Roachdale passed away Friday morning at home.  He was 77.

Mike served three years in the Air Force National Guard.  He attended correctional academy in Plainfield before starting work as a security officer.  He later spent 16 years with the Indiana Dept. of Transportation.  He liked outdoor activities, taking watches apart, collecting knives, and going through his toolbox with his grandson and teaching him about tools.  He loved his family and watching his family's activities.

Born Aug. 14, 1948 in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Joseph Dale Crooks and Elsie Lee Alexander Crooks but was raised by Paul and LaMoynne Sewell.  He dated Karen Snodgrass for five years and they were married for 50, making them a couple for 55 years total.  They were married on Feb. 14, 1975.  She survives.

Surviving family includes: wife, Karen Crooks of Roachdale; two daughters, Sherrie Hintz (Paul) and Corinna Price (Derick); four grandchildren, Tyler and Trevor Hintz, Mikalyn Coughlin (Travis) and Kyle Burger (Shelby); four step-grandchildren, Skylar, Foney, Lakkain and Keelie Price; five great-grandchildren, Ayden, Katelyn, Bentley, Remington and Ryker; beloved brother-in-law, Brian Snodgrass.

He was preceded in death by his biological parents, the parents that raised him, as well as three brothers, George, Marvin and Vaughn Sewell.

Mike's family will be holding a celebration of his life privately.  Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville.
