Obituary

Mearil "Snork" Martin of Crawfordsville passed away Tuesday morning at the Indiana Veteran's Home in West Lafayette.  He was 76.

Snork worked and retired as a meat cutter in the meat department at Kroger.  He was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School.  He enjoyed spectator sports.  He liked IU until his grandchildren started attending Purdue, and then he became a fan of both.  He loved music and liked to DJ.  He also enjoyed classic cars and owned a few over the years. There wasn't a place he went where he wasn't making someone laugh. He'll be remembered as a family man who loved and was loved by everyone he met.

Born Aug. 6, 1947 in Winchester, Indiana, he was the son of Keith Martin and Georgia Showalter Martin.  He served his country in the U.S. Army as a Vietnam Veteran.  He married Betty Beck on March 17, 1968.  She survives.

Surviving family includes: wife, Betty Martin; five children, Gary Martin (Heather) of Cape Coral, FL, Angela Houston (Brodie) of Cicero, IN, Brandy Higdon (Scott) of Deputy, IN, Trent Martin of Crawfordsville, IN, Tyler Martin (Sherilyn) of Crawfordsville, IN; Eleven Grandchildren, Zach (Emilee), Brogan (Evan), Tori (fiancé Jayden), Campbell (fiancé Ian), Jett (fiancé Judd), Lizzie, Spencer, Sadie, Sydnie, Colton and Sophie.

He was preceded in death by: his parents; granddaughter, Chloe; two brothers, Russell Martin and David Martin; as well as a sister, Shirley Thompson.

A family graveside service with military rites will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery South at a later date.  Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville.
