Mable "Maxine" Pettit

April 19, 1934-March 20, 2025

Mable "Maxine" Pettit, 90, of Crawfordsville went to be with her Lord and Savior March 20th at home surrounded by her family following a brief illness.  She was the daughter of Charles and Fleeta Alexander and one of eight children.  Maxine was married to the love of her life, Harry Pettit.

Born April 19, 1934, Maxine led a wonderful life marked by love and dedication for family and friends.  She possessed independence and an unwavering spirit.  She lived life with joy and laughter to share with all.

Maxine graduated from Purdue University with a teaching degree.  She taught school for several years, including Darlington School and Buck Creek before stepping away to be an amazing stay-at-home mom.  She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all.

Family was everything to Maxine and she was blessed with three children: son, David (Sue) Pettit of Lafayette and daughters Marilyn Truax (Rusty Shoaf) and Connie (Steve) Henderson, both of Crawfordsville.  Her grandchildren include: Brian Pettit, Jamie Ellingwood, and Jill (Daniel) Truax.  Loving great-grandchildren are Alonna, Lane, Elijah, Ezra, Katherine and Walter.

Additional family includes: brother, Robert (Nancy) Alexander; sisters, Virginia (Frank) Yeager, Helen (Roland) Weiss and Mary Alexander; brother-in-law, Carl Bennett; special cousin, Herbert Miller and many wonderful and beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Harry Pettit, siblings, Mildred Bennett, Charles "Bill" and Myrna Alexander, Herbert and Judy Alexander, a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Delores and Ira Needham and a son-in-law, Steve Truax.

A private family celebration of life memorial service will be held at a later date.
