Lola "Sissy" Hockersmith Shermer

July 20, 1933- May 25, 2025

Sissy was born to Earnest L. and Inez P. Coons Delano; she was the youngest of the Delano Dozen. Sissy graduated from New Market in 1951, and married Perry "Icky" Hockersmith on June 16 of that year. They were together for 53 years, and had two children, Terry and Debbie. Icky passed away in 2005. Sissy married Leonard "Lefty" Shermer on September 8, 2007. Lefty died in 2017. Of her 11 siblings, Sissy is survived by only her twin brother Loyal "Buzzy" Delano. Also surviving is her daughter Debbie (J.D.) Watson; six grandchildren; eight great- grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

In addition to having been widowed twice, she was preceded in death by her cherished son, Terry (Carol) Hockersmith, in 2020

Sissy was a homemaker and she and Icky started the Country Store in 1983, which they operated for 10 years. She was a member of Fremont Street Baptist Church for over 50 years, and later attended First Baptist Church with Lefty. Her spiritual life was incredibly important to her, and the light of the Lord radiated from her beautiful smile. She was always joyful, and her laughter contagious.

Friends may call at Fremont Street Baptist Church on Saturday, May 31, 2025 from 11 am until the time of the service at 1 PM. Officiating will be pastors Dan Aldrich and J.D. Watson. The interment will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery, New Market.
