Jill Ann Jeffries Melvin of Crawfordsville passed away Wednesday morning at Majestic Care of Avon.  She was 71.

Jill was a member of Woodland Heights Christian Church, where she taught Sunday School for over 30 years.  She was treasurer of the women's Lenten breakfast and went on several mission trips with the youth groups.  She also served on the board of directors for New Beginnings Daycare.

Born Dec. 3, 1949 in Crawfordsville, she was the daughter of James Jeffries and Virginia Nelson Jeffries.  She graduated from Greencastle High School in 1968.  She was the postmaster at New Market, retiring in 2012.

Surviving family includes: daughter, Misty Marie (Justin) McCombs of Crawfordsville; sister, Cindy (Jerry) Calandrilla; brother, Tom (Carol) Jeffries; grandson Connor McCombs; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Jack and a daughter, Heather Dawn DeLong.

Memorial visitation will be from 12 Noon to 2:30 PM Saturday at Stone Creek Lodge.  A service to remember Jill will begin at 3 PM with Pastor Tim Lueking officiating, followed by a procession to the Roachdale Cemetery.  Burkhart Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
