Jerry Lee Harris

June 23, 1933-June 17, 2025

Jerry Lee Harris of New Ross passed away Tuesday night at his home.  He was 91.

Mr. Harris served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.  He worked at California Pellet Mill and then he and his wife owned and operated Harris Electric in New Ross.  He liked doing outdoor activities: hunting, fishing, and camping.  He liked to travel and would go to Canada every year to go fishing.  He also enjoyed flea markets and antique malls.

Born June 23, 1933 in New Ross, he was the son of Sherman Harris and Gretchen Walker Harris.  He graduated from New Ross High School.  He married Jeannetta Cain and they later divorced.  He married Barbara Schenck and she preceded him in death.

Surviving family includes: son, Jon Harris of Crawfordsville; daughter, Joni Hutchison of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren, Christopher (Ashley), Rachael, Beau and Hunter; two great-grandchildren, Hayden and Dawson; four step-sons, Jeff Schenck, Dennis Schenck, Steve Schenck and Jim Schenck and their families; his caregiver, Regina; his beloved dog, Stella; multiple nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by both wives, two sisters, Shirley and Lindy and a son, Terry Harris.

Visitation will be from 2 PM to 5 PM Saturday at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 West Wabash, Crawfordsville.  Services with military rites will begin at 5PM.  He will be laid to rest at New Ross Cemetery at a later date.
