With heavy hearts, we mourn Jacob Douglas Petrey, 30, who unexpectedly passed away from heart failure on July 20th, 2023. Born on January 24th, 1993 in Crawfordsville, Indiana, Jacob was a beloved son, brother, grandchild, nephew, cousin, and friend. His journey touched the hearts of many, and he is deeply missed.

Jacob graduated from North Montgomery High School in 2011 and studied Psychology at the University of Southern Indiana. He bravely faced challenges after being diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder, but remained hopeful. He taught himself guitar, enjoyed literature, and found solace in walks and video games. Jacob cherished quality time with family and friends, engaging in heartfelt conversations.

Jacob is survived by his loving mother, Cheryl Simpson (Jeff Simpson), his father Mark Petrey, sister Valerie Petrey, and his grandparents Gerry Foster, John Foster, and Billie Mossburg. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, and stepbrothers Dylan and Jeffrey Simpson. Jacob was preceded in death by grandparents James Petrey, Rodney Pemberton Sr., Richard Mossburg, aunt Diana Radez, and stepsister Karli Simpson.

Jacob was known for his warm heart, intelligence, and spirituality. He studied the Bible, and his empathy and trustworthiness endeared him to many. He found joy in making people smile and had a love for animals, adopting his cat, baby Rose, in 2017.

Visitation for Jacob will be at Burkhart Funeral Home in Crawfordsville on Tuesday, July 25th, 2023, from 5 to 8 pm, with a memorial service starting at 7 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the National Alliance on Mental Illness or the Animal Welfare League of Montgomery County in Jacob's name are appreciated.
