Harold M. Barclay of rural Crawfordsville passed away Thursday morning at his home.  He was 96.

Born November 30, 1923 near Red House, Kentucky he was the son of Luther (L.E.) and Clara (Park) Barclay. Following his mother's death when he was a child, his father married Bertha (Ballard) Barclay.

He went to school at Red House and Central High School at Richmond, Kentucky.  He turned down a full academic scholarship to the University of Kentucky to become a farmer.

On May 21, 1948 he married Betty Kincaid at Crawfordsville. She survives.

Harold was a self-employed farm owner and operator until his retirement in 2009.  His farm was known for raising prime grade cattle that was sold across the Eastern United States. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Crawfordsville and then Eastside Baptist Church where he taught Sunday school classes and served as trustee for many years.

He was a Montgomery County councilman for twenty eight years serving many of those years as president.  He also spent time as the president of the board of Kirkpatrick Grain.

He was a friend to many and truly enjoyed farming and remained active playing softball until he was in his sixties.

Surviving family members include his wife, sons Kenneth (Kim) of Alamo, Neil (Becky) of Crawfordsville, Mark (Dorothy) of rural Crawfordsville, Lewis (Lisa) of London Ohio; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren with two more on the way and one great-great- grandchild and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Edward; one grandson; one granddaughter; one great-great-grandson and four sisters- Mary Davis, Etta Park, Jewel Whitaker and Gladys Welliever.

Visitation will be from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM Sunday, September 20 ^th at Eastside Baptist church. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM Monday at the church with Pastors Steve Whicker and Isaac Zull officiating. Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery South.
