Mahoy
May 14, 1949 — Apr 18, 2023
Donald F. Mahoy of Darlington passed away on the evening of Tuesday, April 18 th at Franciscan Hospital, Lafayette. He was 73.
Don was born to the late Edith Louise (Flanigan) Mahoy and Robert Francis Mahoy on May 14, 1949.
Don spent his childhood on the family farm outside Darlington and from this grew his love for farming. He farmed with his dad until they were forced to sell the farm. His prized possession was his International 1206 tractor. Don enjoyed riding his Harley, a 2-wheel version early in life and a 3-wheel trike later in life. He was also a member of the Darlington American Legion Post 302, Darlington Conservation Club, and the Jaycees throughout his lifetime.
After farming, Don went on to a career driving a tri axle, hauling stone for Clugh Trucking, Reed Trucking and Conner Excavating, to name a few. He also at one point purchased his own dump truck that he affectionately named "Big Red." He was also known for being the first at the gate in the morning waiting for the stone quarry to open. Don was a man of few words, however was very dedicated to his job.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two of his brothers, Joe and Gary. He is survived by his oldest brother, Phil Mahoy (Sherry) of Darlington; nieces and nephew, Carrie Mahoy, of Darlington, Jill Mahoy (Aaron Wadell) of Madison, Wisconsin and Ryan Mahoy of Darlington; great-nieces and nephews, Alysse and Chase Mahoy and Gabe Wardell; great-great-nephew, Zayd Mahoy, along with several cousins and close friends.
