David Joseph Smith passed away early Saturday morning at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville.  He was 72.

He was born in Crawfordsville on Oct. 21, 1951 to Joseph and Clara Smith.  He was a faithful member of Youngs Chapel Christian Church.  He graduated from Linden High School.  He was a 10-year member of 4-H and loved going to the Montgomery County 4-H fair every year.  His first job was helping his dad farm and later worked 20 years for Wal-Mart Optical.  He enjoyed talking to people and telling jokes and stories.  Despite his handicaps, David faced the world with grace and confidence.

Surviving family members include: two brothers, Mark (Susan) Smith of Crawfordsville, Dale (Ruth) Smith of Bowling Green, Ohio; two sisters, Marcia (Barry) Rhoads of Brownsburg, Donna (Dave) Church of Fishers; thirteen nieces and nephews and 22 great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM Saturday, August 10th at Burkhart Funeral Home.  Services will begin at 1 PM, led by Pastor Gary Edwards.  After the service, he will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
