David McMurry
August 9, 1958 – March 18, 2026
David McMurry of Waveland passed away Wednesday afternoon, surrounded by his loving family, at St. Vincent's Hospital at the age of 67.
David was a dedicated supervisor at Nucor, where he worked in shipping and receiving before moving to the rail yard. He took great pride in his work and truly valued the friendships he built there, considering his coworkers part of his extended family.
Outside of work, David found joy in woodworking, gardening, and farming—something he loved doing for many years alongside his dad. He also had a special passion for collecting toy John Deere tractors, a hobby that reflected his lifelong love of agriculture.
David will be remembered as a man of reason—thoughtful, steady, and wise. He was someone his children and grandchildren often turned to for advice, guidance, and support. He took the time to listen, think things through, and offer words that truly mattered. His presence brought a sense of calm and confidence to those around him.
Born August 9, 1958, at Culver Hospital in Crawfordsville, he was the son of Charles R. McMurry and Rosalie Larew McMurry. He graduated from Southmont and went on to study agriculture at Purdue. On March 25, 1985, he married Cynthia Cowan, who survives.
David deeply loved his family and took great pride in each of them. He is survived by his wife, Cindy McMurry of Waveland; two daughters, Mindi Shull of Georgetown, Kentucky, and Tara Wilson (Jason) of Crawfordsville; four grandchildren, Noah, Noelle, Chelsey (Seth), and Madison; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dale and Darin; and one sister, Deanna.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 3 PM to 6 PM on Tuesday, March 31 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 West Wabash. Services will begin at 6 PM.
