Obituary

David R. Allen of Crawfordsville passed away Tuesday evening at Franciscan East Health of Lafayette. He was 69.

Born Sept. 30, 1954 in Danville, Illinois, he was the oldest of five children born to Gordon Allen and Marjorie Coleman Allen.  He was a graduate of Covington High School and then attended the Missouri Auctioneers School to become a licensed auctioneer. He married Amy Lynn Crowder on December 23, 1977 in Hillsboro, and they have celebrated 46 years together.

Dave began his working career driving a school bus for Covington Community Schools and he, along with Amy, were the caretakers of the Covington City Park.  Later, he worked at Agri-Vest and then R.R Donnelley & Sons where he was a hoist driver in both the north and south plants and retired after 22 years.  In his retirement, Dave and Amy opened Allen's Country Kitchen in downtown Crawfordsville where together they had the privilege of meeting and serving so many community members.  Most recently they ran the cafeteria and catered on the campus of Nucor Steel.  Dave loved keeping up with his granddaughters' activities and being involved in anything she decided to do.  He loved to feed the birds and watch them through the window for hours on end, took pride in his flower beds, and spending time with his family.

Surviving family includes: wife, Amy Lynn Allen; daughter, Erin Hreskowsky; son-in-law, Vladimyr Hreskowsky; granddaughter, Shaeleigh Hreskowsky; brother, Eddie Joe Allen (Stephanie); two sisters, Nancy Call (Bob) and Becky Robinson (John); sister-in-law, Nancy Allen; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Steve Allen.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 PM Saturday, August 10 at Burkhart Funeral Home as well as one hour prior to the service Sunday.  Services will begin at 2 PM Sunday, August 11 at Burkhart Funeral Home.  After the service, he will be laid to rest at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hillsboro.
