Dallas Ray McDonald of Waynetown passed away Sunday at home. He was 87.
Mr. McDonald worked at R. R. Donnelley, starting in 1956. In addition, he was a gentleman farmer, raising cattle for many years. He liked gardening as well as bird hunting for pheasant and quail with his birddogs, especially his beloved Freckles. He also served his country in the U.S. Army 82nd Airborne.
Born Dec. 8, 1936 in Sumiton, Alabama, he was the son of Louie McDonald and Ruby Brewer McDonald. He attended school in Alabama until he was 15, when they moved to Indiana and he graduated from Veedersburg High School. He married Karen Sue Adkins on May 28, 1961. She passed away May 7, 2023.
Surviving family includes: daughter, Kristine Sanders; two sons, Douglas (Jill) McDonald and Scot (Keri) McDonald; six grandchildren, Austin, Ethan, Caitlin, Nathaniel, Alexandria, and Duncan; four sisters, Perlene Carter, Sarah Byers, Nellie Boord, and Sandra "Sam" Jackson.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Karen McDonald and two sisters, Maryann Devine and Juliaette "Judy" Weston.
Visitation will be from 10 AM to 1 PM Thursday, March 14th at First Christian Church, 211 S. Walnut Street, Crawfordsville. Services will begin at 1 PM, led by Pastor Darla Goodrich. Burial will follow at Waynetown Masonic Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.
