Charles R. Smith of Crawfordsville passed away Monday morning at Riverwalk Village in Noblesville.  He was 94.

Mr. Smith served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1947 to 1950.  He graduated from Warren (Michigan) High School, class of 1947.  He was an active member of First United Methodist Church in Crawfordsville, where he sang in the choir.  He worked for many years in an aircraft factory, later at Hoosier Glass and Mirror, then finally at Raybestos, retiring from there.

Born July 10, 1929 in Detroit, Michigan, he was the son of Samuel A. Smith and Mary Ann Crowder Smith.  He married Ada Louella "Lou" Gibson on Oct. 19, 1950 in Springfield, Missouri.  She passed away Aug. 9, 2008.

Surviving family includes: son, Charles Smith of Lafayette; brother, Albert Smith of Crawfordsville; several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by: wife, Lou Smith; daughter, Linda L. Smith; two brothers, Bob and Sam Smith.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, Nov. 4th at First United Methodist Church at 1:00 PM with Pastor Brian Campbell officiating.  Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.
