Betty J. Thompson

Betty J. Thompson of Crawfordsville passed away Wednesday evening at the Ben Hur Memory Cottage, six days after her 90th birthday.

Betty worked at R. R. Donnelley and retired from Lithonia Lighting. She was a member of the Crawfordsville Community Church. She liked to go for walks, do puzzles, play cards and watch birds. Most of all, she loved her family.

Born Jan. 2, 1930 in Crawfordsville, she was the daughter of Frank Alfrey and B. Imogene Alfrey. She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1948 and on June 5, 1948 she married Donald Thompson. He passed away Jan. 14, 2000.

Surviving family includes: son, Don (Julie) Thompson; two daughters, Michele (Rick) Barker and Misha (Cory Brown) Thompson; as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Mary Jacoby, and two brothers, Carroll and Ted Alfrey.

Visitation will be from 1 PM to 2:30 on Monday, Jan. 13 at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash Avenue. Services will begin at 2:30 PM, led by Pastor Richard Shirar. Entombment will follow at the Oak Hill Mausoleum.
