Walt Stephens of Crawfordsville passed away Saturday morning at home after a lengthy illness and with family by his side.  He was 84.

Walt worked at R. R. Donnelley for 32 years.  He was a member of the Donnelley Club, Masonic Lodge and Moose Lodge #6.  He served his country in the U. S. Navy.  He previously attended New Hope Christian Church.  He was a huge IU fan and also enjoyed birds and birdwatching.

Born Aug. 13, 1936 in Sheridan, Indiana, he was the son of Samuel Stephens and Mary Josephine Williams Stephens.  He graduated from Sheridan High School.  He married Lureaine Greer on Jan. 1, 1956.  She survives.

Surviving family includes: wife, Lureaine Stephens of Crawfordsville; three daughters, Lorena Elmore (Jim) of Carmel, Diana Stephens, Susan Stephens, both of Crawfordsville; two sons, Mike Stephens of Crawfordsville and Sam Stephens of Lafayette; three grandsons, Lee (Kim), Patrick (Erin), Shane; four great-granddaughters.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Visitation will be from 4 to 5 PM Wednesday, Dec. 9 at Burkhart Funeral Home.  Services will begin at 5, led by Pastor Mike Whitacre.  A private burial will take place at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery.
