Thomas Patrick Welsh, 84, of Crawfordsville, passed away with his family at his side on Wednesday, February 4th, 2026 at 8:51pm at IU Methodist in Indianapolis, Indiana.
He was born April 3rd, 1941 in Jasper County, Indiana to the late John Edward and Ruth O'Brien Welsh. Tom was very active in high school sports, where he was an avid basketball player. He won the Goodland High School Sportsmanship Award of 1959-60. He also was the Most Valuable Player at Goodland High School 1959-60. He graduated from Goodland High School in 1960.
He was previously married to Carol Lebeau, with whom he had 2 sons. He married his wife of 52 years, Shirley Joan McAnulty on May 24, 1974.
Tom was a very hard worker and started his career as a farmer. He then started working for Heinold Hog Market in Goodland, Indiana; he then moved to Fancy Farm, Kentucky to manage for Heinold before moving to Crawfordsville to manage there. Then Tom started his career with Indiana Department of Transportation as a heavy machine operator, where he stayed until he retired after 27 years.
Tom was an avid gardener up until the very last year of his life, he and his wife Shirley put out a very large garden and sold their vegetables at a roadside stand at their EIEIO farm. He was an active farmer for many years, raising hogs, cows and chickens. Tom loved spending time with his family most of all. He also enjoyed camping, watching college basketball and football, playing cards/games with his family and friends, riding in his golfcart at the lake and celebrating every milestone along the way. Tom was incredibly well known for his jokes, and famous for his pranks; which only got more elaborate as they progressed.
He loved his children and his grandchildren were the light of his life. He is survived by his wife,
Shirley, his 5 children: Craig Welsh (Julie) of Parr, Indiana, Kerry Welsh (Debbie) of Paducah, Kentucky, Brian McAnulty of Crawfordsville, Indiana, Bradley McAnulty (Linda) of Crawfordsville, Indiana, and Brenda Roush (William) of Lafayette, Indiana. His 13 surviving grandchildren: Cody Michael (Brittany), Thomas McAnulty (Analicia), Kristi Michael (Isaac), Lindsey Mancuso (Chris), John Welsh, Tyler Welsh (Tayler), Briley McAnulty-Koufteros (Christi), Bailey Langenegger (Michael), Madisyn Welsh (Russell), Ryan Welsh, Ian Roush (Paige), Adam Roush, Nolan Roush. Brother Michael Welsh (Deanna) of Kentland, Indiana and sister, MaryJane Antcliff of Palmetto, Florida also survive.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, 11 of his 13 siblings: John (Jack) Welsh, Helen (Sis) Vicari, Maurice Welsh, Lois Reed, Patricia (Patty) Luck, Richard (Nub) Welsh, Francis (Dewey) Welsh, Marilyn (Peggy) Bell, Ardis East, Doris (Dori) Honegger and Charles (Chuck) Welsh.
Friends may visit from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM EDT, with services immediately following on February 14th, 2026 at Burkhart Funeral Home in Crawfordsville, Indiana. Interment will follow at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery in Crawfordsville, Indiana.
