Stephen Rex Moffitt

December 22, 1943 to February 5, 2026

Stephen Rex Moffit, age 82, passed away surrounded by family on February 5, 2026 in New Richmond, Indiana.

Born December 22, 1943 to DeVon and Martha Jean Lough Moffitt, in Crawfordsville Indiana. He was a graduate from Darlington High School and later joined the National Guard. He retired from Kroger but his favorite job was at Dari-Licious.

Steve was a member of the Hickory Bible Church and the American Legion. He loved his hunting and fishing trips and was an avid collector of Matchbox Cars. Most of all he loved spending time with his grandkids.

Surviving family includes: Step-son, Terry (Tammy) Ward; grandchildren, Candy (Darrick Spore) Chamness, Toby (Wendy) Ward, Tristan Ward, and Echo Chamness; eight great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren; sister, Minnie Howard; brother, Samuel Moffitt; and nephews Shane and Travis Moffitt.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Bonnie; children, Robert Chamness and Jerry Ward; grandson, Bobby Chamness, and great-grandson Skyler Spore.

Visitation for Steve will begin at 4 PM on Monday, February 9, until the time of the service at 6 PM at Burkhart Funeral Home. Service will be led by Pastor Curtis Brower. After the service Stephen will be cremated and laid to rest at Wesley Cemetery at a later date.
