Sonja Teresa Maria Thornburg, of Crawfordsville, passed away at University Hospital Indianapolis on July 17, 2024. She was 71.

Born in Dettingen an der Erms, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany on November 22, 1952 to Erwin and Hermine Pischulti Schur. She graduated from Schiller School in Germany and became a United States Citizen in 2007. She worked as a nursing translator in the Military, volunteered at different Military bases, and worked in several factories in Crawfordsville. Sonja also was a caregiver for the elderly and was most of all a homemaker for her family. She loved spending time with her grandkids.

Survivors include: husband Georg Grammel of Crawfordsville; daughter, Christina (Mike) Baker of Russellville, IN; son, Robert (Danette) Thornburg of Russellville, IN; grandsons, Christopher Baker of Bedford, IN, Ash Cummings of Russellville, IN, and Deavon Cummings of Russellville, IN; granddaughters, Kameryn Thornburg of Waveland, IN, Sudyn Thornburg of Russellville, IN, Taryn Thornburg of Russellville, IN; and great-granddaughter Navy Reign Coffenberry; sisters Gabriele Pilcher of Crawfordsville, IN and Cornelia Pfost of Stuttgart, Germany; brothers-in-law, Harald Pfost of Stuttgart, Germany and Glenn Miller of Benton Harbor, MI;  nephews Joshua Pilcher of Crawfordsville, Carson Pfost of Stuttgart, Germany, and Andrew Miller of Kansas City, MO; nieces, Marion Azzalini of Sparta, Tennessee, and Nancy Miller-Fadel of Glencoe, IL, also over  50 nieces and nephews on the Thornburg side.

Sonja was preceded in death by her mother and sister Andrea Miller.
