Ruby Eileen Shelton died Friday, Sept. 5th at IU Arnett in Lafayette.  She was 98 years old.

She was born at Wallace, Indiana June 4, 1927 to Doris Lee Newkirk and Ruth E. McCormick Newkirk.  She graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1945.  She married her high school sweetheart, Leroy L. Shelton Nov. 24, 1945.  He passed away Jan. 17, 2020.

She was employed in the office of J. C. Penney and retired as a teller trainer at National City Bank.  She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School.  She was a past Madam President of the Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of Eagles and was a Mrs. Eagle and Golden Eagle.  She was in a euchre club that was started by her mother and friends in 1956.  She loved dancing, reading, crossword puzzles and attending family events.

Preceding her in death were her husband,  her parents, step-fathers, Frank Simonds and Leo Largent, daughter, Sheryl Shelton Warford, son-in-law, Russell Warford, a stillborn son, her brothers, Gerald Newkirk and Richard Simons; sister, Patricia Simonds.

Survivors include: son, Tom (Phyllis) Shelton, Noblesville; grandsons, Jason (Denise) Warford, Dayton, Indiana, Ryan (Jennifer) Shelton, Noblesville; granddaughter, Justine Warford, Lebanon, Tennessee; great-grandchildren, Holly Van Ostran, Molly (Apollo) Bond-Van Ostran, Maddie Shelton, Alex Warford, Nicholas Warford; sister,  Shirley Paddack; many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 West Wabash, from 3 PM to 5 PM on Thursday, Sept. 11.  Services will begin at 5 PM with rites by the Eagles Auxiliary and Pastor Rachel Boyd.  Burial will take place at Oak Hill Cemetery North at a later date.
