Ronald M. Birchfield of Darlington passed away Saturday night at 5:55 at the IU Arnett in Lafayette.  He was 70.

Ron served in the U.S. Navy for 6 years and was proud of his service.  He worked at Subaru in Lafayette for several years.  He liked metal detecting, geocaching, and woodworking, where he made pens.

Born Aug. 13, 1953 in Crawfordsville, he was the son of Lonnie Birchfield and Carolyn Lee Maxwell Hunt.  He was part of the last class to graduate from Darlington High School.

Surviving family includes: two sons, John Birchfield, and Matt Birchfield; two daughters, Megan Salas, and Amy (Paul) Hughes; step-son, Jared Tolley; seven grandchildren, Makayla, Zion, Malaki, Malik, Julia, Cherish, Caroline and Klayton; girlfriend Janie Sherlock; two brothers, Jerry (Cindy) Birchfield and Jeff Hunt; sister, Susan Anderson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Val Edward and a granddaughter, Cheyenne.

Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1:30 PM, Saturday, June 1st at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville.  Services will begin at 1:30.  Burial with military rites will be at Odd Fellows Cemetery in Darlington.
