Roberta Downey of Crawfordsville passed away Wednesday evening at home.  She was 87.

Mrs. Downey did a lot of volunteer work, helping friends and visiting area nursing homes.  She was a member of Faith Baptist Church.  She worked as a sales associate at J.C. Penney and then with several accounting and law firms in the area as a secretary.  She was a 1954 graduate of Lebanon High School and Indiana Business College, where she earned a certification as a legal secretary.

Born April 27, 1936 in Lebanon, she was the daughter of Robert Bell and Viola Fern Bell.  She married Charles Wayne Downey in 1955 and he passed away on April 10, 2012.

Surviving family includes: son, Mark Wayne Downey of Crawfordsville; grandson, Brody Allen Downey and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son, Gordon Allen Downey.

Visitation will be from Noon to 2 PM, Tuesday at Burkhart Funeral Home.  Services will begin at 2 PM, led by Pastor Keith Harris. After the service, she will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery North.

She believed in the King James Bible.  John 3:16 says "For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten son, that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish but have everlasting life."
