Obituary

Robert M. Harris, of Crawfordsville, passed away Monday morning at Ben Hur Health and Rehabilitation.  He was 89.

Bob served in the U.S. Army from Sept. 14, 1951 to June 13, 1953.  He earned a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars serving in Korea.  He was a 1950 graduate of Crawfordsville High School and liked keeping in touch with his high school friends.  He played golf regularly until shortly before his death.  He also volunteered at the Crawfordsville Municipal Golf Course.  He enjoyed watching sports and was a huge L.A. Dodgers fan.

Born Aug. 19, 1931 in Waveland, he was the son of Ivan and Grace Harris.  He married Shirley M. Dunkin on Aug. 4, 1957.  She survives.  He worked at R. R. Donnelley for many years, retiring in 1993, later he worked for Weir Janitorial Services, retiring from there in 2005.

Surviving family includes: wife, Shirley Harris of Crawfordsville; son, Brent Harris of Crawfordsville; sister, Carol Johnson of Brownsburg.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son, Randall.

Visitation will be Thursday, July 1 from 1 PM to 2:30 PM at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 W. Wabash, Crawfordsville.  Graveside services with military rites will be held at 3 PM at the Freedom Cemetery on state road 234.

Donations may be made to the Crawfordsville Municipal Golf Course through the City of Crawfordsville, 300 E. Pike Street, Crawfordsville, IN 47933, with "golf course donation" on the memo line.
