Obituary

Dr. Richard D. Alderfer of Crawfordsville passed away at Wellbrooke Thursday night at the age of 64.

Alderfer earned his bachelor's degree from Purdue and his PhD from Michigan State in Agricultural Economics to become an Ag Economist.  He was a member of the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, where he served as lay leader, as well as the Montgomery County Woodworkers, Indiana Association of Woodturners and was a past state officer for FFA.  His association with Emmaus was also very important to him.

Born June 29, 1956 in Wabash, Indiana, he was the son of Monte Alderfer and JoAnn Jefferies Alderfer.  He married Lillian McCandless on August 8, 1981.  She survives.

Surviving family includes: wife, Lillian Alderfer; son, Nathan Alderfer (Tiffany); daughter, Kristen Slagle (Allan); three grandchildren, Natalie Alderfer, Erin Alderfer, Eli Slagle; sister, Lorinda Yoo (Dave); his second mother, Lois Alderfer; second siblings, Janet Johnson, Jeff Johnson (Tammy), JoAnn Hartline (Tom); several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and nephew, Mark Evan Yoo.

Memorial services will be held at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church on Saturday, April 10th at 11 AM with Pastor Warren Stewart officiating.  Cremation arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.
