Dean Rosentreter of Waveland passed away Thursday at St. Elizabeth Hospital East in Lafayette. He was 88.

Born December, 6, 1930 at Lafayette, he was the son of Emil and Ada Rosentreter.  He graduated from Chalmers High School in 1948.  On May 25, 1957 he married Ruth Wilson in Westville, Illinois.  She passed away November 26, 2009.

Mr. Rosentreter received the Purple Heart Medal while serving in the United States Army in Korea.

He farmed in White and Tippecanoe counties before moving to Waveland in 1965 where he continued farming.

He is a 64 year member of American Legion Post 72, member of the Crawfordsville Veterans of Foreign Wars, Amvets of Rockville and a 54 year member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Crawfordsville.

He enjoyed travelling, Colts Football and Purdue and Pacers Basketball.

Surviving family include his son, Roger (Denise) Rosentreter of Crawfordsville and Granddaughter Katie Rosentreter.

He was preceded in death by brothers Harold and Ralph Rosentreter of Monticello, sisters Margaret Mahoy of Indianapolis and Norma Mann of Anaheim, California.

A funeral service with military honors is 1:00 PM Monday, July 15 at Burkhart Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Stone officiating.  Private entombment will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery North mausoleum.   Visitation will be Monday from 11:00am until the time of service.
