Don Michael Dowell of Crawfordsville passed away Tuesday in the ER at Franciscan Health.  He was 72.

Mike was active in many community organizations.  He was a member of the Masonic Lodge #50, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, American Legion, Honor Guard, VFW, Eagles, Moose, Elks, and AmVets.  He served his country in the U.S. Marines.

Born April 1, 1949 in Crawfordsville, he was the son of Lloyd "Buster" Dowell and Viola "Patty" Durham Dowell.  He graduated from Crawfordsville High School.  He was a skilled craftsman in the trade of masonry. His father started Dowell Masonry in 1946. They worked together for many years. Mike took over the family business in 1972.

Surviving family includes: son, Michael Patrick Dowell; two daughters, Paula Kochert and Shadon Brown; two step-sons, Billy Rou and Terry Rou; two step-daughters, Tanya Oram and Kim Reavis; brother, Billy Guinn; ex-wife, Annie Dowell (1988-2012); numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren that loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents; ex-wife, Donna Simms; baby-sister, Judy Kay.

Visitation will be from Noon to 2 PM Monday, Aug. 2 ^nd at Burkhart Funeral Home.  Services will begin at 2 PM with masonic rites.  Burial with military honors will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery Grant Ave.
