Melinda Johnson of Crawfordsville passed away at her home on Thursday morning.  She was 66.

Melinda grew up in Roachdale and was a graduate of North Putnam High School.  She worked at Allison Transmission for over thirty years.  She was an avid IU basketball fan.  She helped deliver meals on wheels and volunteered at the FISH Food Pantry.  She also participated in the mini-marathon.

Born Jan. 31, 1957 in Greencastle, Indiana, she was the daughter of Lucile Gilstrap.

Surviving family includes: two daughters, Rainee Mitchell Martin (JD) and Emily Cochran (Drew); son, Anthony Johnson (America); eight grandchildren, Grant, Izzy and Mila Martin, Rowan and Saylor Cochran, as well as Azaelia, Azmith and Azlan Johnson; brothers, Donnie Gilstrap (Terri), Richard Gilstrap (Janet), John Gilstrap, all of Crawfordsville; sisters, Julie Davis (Ron) of Crawfordsville and Susie Gilstrap of Indianapolis; brothers, David Gilstrap (Marsha) of South Carolina and Wint Gilstrap of California.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Joe Gilstrap.

Private family services will be held Thursday, Nov. 30th with a burial at Calvary Cemetery.  Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.
