Martha Griggs

May 31, 1933-July 28, 2026

Martha Belle Griggs of Crawfordsville passed away Tuesday morning at Creasy Springs in Lafayette.  She was 93.

Martha was a homemaker that liked fixing home-cooked meals.  She was a member of Woodland Heights Christian Church.  She liked to collect things, especially elephants and Christmas ornaments.

Born May 31, 1933 in Alamo, she was the daughter of Fred Fischer and Belle Fischer.  She was a graduate of Alamo High School.  She married Virgil C. Griggs on May 11, 1951 and he passed away July 31, 2009.

Surviving family includes: two sons, Keith (Cheryl) Griggs of Crawfordsville, Jeff (Cindy) Griggs of Lafayette; two daughters, Sharon (Keith) Schwartz of Texas, Cindy (Art) Hall of Pennsylvania; nine grandchildren, Luke, Joel, Carissa, Lindzy, Lexy, Bill, Susie, Tom, and Brigette; along with several great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, one sister, Alice and four brothers, Paul, Jim, John and Dale Fischer.

Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM on Saturday, August 8th at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 West Wabash Avenue.  Services will begin at 1 PM.  After the service, she will be laid to rest at Oak Hill Cemetery South.
