Marlene Mae Scott Elmore, 92, went into the loving arms of our Lord May 2, 2025.  She arrived into this world February 15, 1932 to Wesley G. and Muriel Mae Batty Scott in Anderson, Indiana.  They lived in a one bedroom house built by her father on the corner of a 40 acre farm that belonged to the family in Madison County.  The one bedroom served five children and two parents with no electricity, water, or telephone.  Due to her being born at home by a country doctor who only recorded births at the end of the month, her "official" birthday of February 27, 1932.  This caused confusion with Medicare and Social Security.  The family thought she should celebrate two birthdays!

She attended Lindburgh School, a four-room school house that was fairly new.  She was excited to have flush toilets at school.  When she came home all she could talk about was the flush toilets, didn't mention the "A" in school until bedtime.  Family didn't have enough flush toilets until she started working after high school and saved enough money for them to have a modern bathroom.

Raising her family was most important to her.  She made all her girls clothes and was involved with all their activities.  Youth group leader, Sunday School teacher, girl scout leader, room mother, etc.  She showed her family love in many ways, one was her cooking and baking, making everyone their favorite baked goods for their birthdays.  Holidays she shined with her homemade meals and baked goods.

Each year the family went on camping trips, pulling their camper around the U.S.A., Canada and Mexico.

Active in the Order of Eastern Star, serving in many stations, but the most was secretary for 31 years and District Deputy #9, adult volunteer for Rainbow Girls.  Active in First Christian Church ladies circle, she taught Sunday School for 25 years.

Marlene graduated from Anderson High School in 1950, married James A. Elmore July 8, 1956 and moved to Crawfordsville.  They were married 47 years when he passed away in 2003.  Also, preceded in death by her parents, siblings, Nondas Wollam, George William Scott, Madge Scott and Ellen Gifford.

She is survived and dearly missed by her girls, Leanah (Mark) Brown, Joanna (Ted) Commons, grandchildren, Nicole Kyger, James (Jacey Riggs) Brown, Mark (Gloria) Brown, Matthew (Alyssa) Commons, Michael (Delaney) Commons, great-grandchildren, Nina Kyger, Joshua Forrester, Ross Brown, Liam Brown, Cole Brown, Broden Commons, Kayce Commons.

Services and calling are Saturday, May 10, 2025 at First Christian Church, 211 S. Walnut Street, Crawfordsville, Indiana.  Calling from 11:00 until 1:00 PM with Eastern Star services at 12:45.  Funeral  services at 1:00 PM.
