Margaret Anne (Boroughs) Schaaf was born on Jan 16, 1943 in Scotts Hill, TN. She attended Hardin County High School, Savannah TN where she won Catfish Derby Queen graduating in 1961. She met William R Schaaf (Bill) at the Savannah Truck Stop Restaurant where she worked. Bill was working at WORM radio station there. They were married on May 12, 1961.
They moved to Bloomington, IN while her husband attended Indiana University, where she gave birth to their first child William R.(Bill Jr.) in August, 1962. She gave birth to their second child, James Phillip, in February, 1965 in Jackson TN. In the late 1960s they moved to Pontiac, IL. In 1969 they moved to Crawfordsville, IN where they purchased their forever home. Their third child Paul David was born on November, 1969.
Margaret worked for Hook's Drugs until her retirement. Since then, she and Bill spent time traveling and wintering in Hollywood, FL where she enjoyed sitting on the beach, the ocean, hanging by the pool at their rented condo with friends, family and playing slots at the local casinos.
After Bill passed in 2013, she continued to winter in Florida till 2020. After which she enjoyed her home in Crawfordsville and her neighbors with whom she had close friendships. She enjoyed spending time with her kids, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her son William R. (Bill Jr) in March 1999, husband William Rice (Bill) in April 2013 and her parents. Survivors include two sons James Phillip (Jodi) of Mount Horeb, WI and Paul David (Kathy) of Colleyville, TX, grandchildren Jakob, Sarah, Zachary and Nathan, great grandchildren Allana, Willow, Winter, and Nora. She is also survived by her sister Debbie of Savannah, TN and Aunt Linda of Franklin, TN plus her nieces Diane, Julie, Regina, and Alicia.
Visitation for Margaret will be from 11 AM to 12 PM, Friday, April 10, 2026 at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville, Indiana. Service will start at 12 Noon and burial will follow the service at Oak Hill Cemetery North.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the charity of your choice.
