Louie Franklin Whittom of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon. He was 93.
Louie worked at Owens Glass in Owens, Illinois and later was a journeyman mechanic. He attended Fremont Street Baptist Church. He served his country in the U.S. Army Cavalry Division, honorably discharged in February of 1950.
Born Aug. 4, 1930 in Naylor, Missouri, he was the son of James Earl Whittom and Rosa Belle Leroux Whittom. He attended school in Naylor. He married Hazel Jean Mink on Dec. 25, 1951. She passed away June 8, 1985. He married Hazel Boyles Evans on April 7, 1990 in St. Louis. She passed away Dec. 16, 2020.
Surviving family includes: two daughters, Darlene Moore of Petersburg, Virginia and Linda Marie (Bob) Harvey of Bolivar, Missouri; son, Louie Franklin Whittom, Jr. of Newport News, Virginia; two brothers, David and Floyd, both of Missouri; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild. He will also be missed and lovingly remembered by the members of his most recent wife's family.
Graveside services with military rites will be held Wednesday, Sept. 6th at 2 PM at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery on State Road 47 south, led by Pastor Dan Aldrich.
Donations in memory of Louie Whittom should be made to Fremont Street Baptist Church, 1908 Fremont Street, Crawfordsville, IN 47933.
