Larry Dean Binford of Darlington passed away Wednesday afternoon at the age of 83.
Larry served in the National Guard of Indiana, 3 rd Battalion, 139 th artillery from 1955-1963. He became a transport driver for Cities Service Oil Co. and then became owner and operator of Binford Service. Those days at the station will always be remembered. He sold his business and went to work helping build Rocky Ridge Golf Course and worked there for several years. He served on the Darlington Fire Department and Darlington Town Board. He was a member of First Baptist Church.
He was a farm toy collector that liked customizing tractors and trucks. Many treasured memories were made vacationing at Hatfields Island View Resort in Minnesota. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, tinkering in his shop and the kitchen. Repairing his great-grandkids' toys was a full-time job. He was famous for his homemade beef jerky and he loved giving it to family and friends.
Born July 1, 1937 he was the son of Charles and Zola (Conrad) Binford. He graduated from Crawfordsville High School, class of 1955. He married Vebra R. Cooke November 10, 1957.
Surviving family includes: wife, Vebra Binford of Darlington; daughter, Kathy (Mark) McClamroch; grandchildren, Emily McClamroch, Thomas (Jessica) McClamroch, Justin (Megan) McClamroch, Charana Binford, Tatum Binford; great-grandchildren, Benjamin McClamroch, Owen McClamroch, Evelyn McClamroch, Easton McClamroch, Jude McClamroch; nieces and nephews, Chuck (Jocelyn) Anderson, Peggy (Mike) Whitacre, Jack Anderson (Peggy Hole), Andra (Kevin) Storms, Stephanie Roncka, Chad Cooke; brother-in-law, Allen (JoAnn) Cooke.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Betty Anderson Branstetter, son, Michael Binford, niece, Jane Switzer.
Due to health concerns, private family services will be held Saturday afternoon at Burkhart Funeral Home, led by Pastor Brian Holt. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery.
