On May 17, 2021, Kim Allen Miller, age 70, went up to bat in the baseball field in the sky.  He was born on his mother Ruth Spencer Lane's birthday on June 4, 1950 in Crawfordsville, Indiana.  He grew up in Russellville and graduated from high school there in 1968.  He married his high school sweetheart Karen Lieske and has 2 daughters, Kelli Miller (Josh) Roche and Traci Miller (Ryan) Conkright.  He and Karen raised her sister Luann Lieske (Brian) Starnes.  Kim and Karen divorced and he later married the love of his life, Sandra Keyt.  They have 2 sons, Chase (Courtney) Crabtree and Seve (Megan) Crabtree.

Kim was an exceptional athlete in basketball but his true love was baseball, specifically the LA Dodgers and his hero Sandy Koufax.  He often joked the only reason he married his wife Sandy was because of her name.  He always said he "bled Dodger blue".  He was also a huge IU fan in the 'Bobby Knight' era.  Once he got so excited over an IU game he flipped over in a recliner and came up with the arm of the chair still in his grip.  Kim had a territorial attachment to the TV remote control and never missed a game, even if it meant flipping back and forth to catch a score.

Kim was a proficient student in his school days making straight A's in Algebra, a gift he passed on to his oldest daughter.  He excelled in anything he did and had many talents, once fixing a Barbie door van for his girls by melting plastic and creating a new hinge.  His Uncle "Bubs" Spencer taught him carpentry and he could build anything, often building birdhouses to support his hobby of backyard bird watching.  He loved to work on cars.  Anyone who truly knows Kim knows how much love he had for his old '67 Chevelle SS, often competing in street races with friends.  In high school he worked at the elevator in Russellville and also helped his Grandpa Archie with the family farm.  After graduation, he worked for RR Donnelley & Sons as a pressman.  We have often been told he was one of the best!  He took a short time off work to join the Army.  He was stationed in Ft. Riley, Kansas where he worked in a hospital printing orders.  He retired from Donnelley's after 47 years.

Kim was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was truly important - the simplicity of living a life close to those you love.  Sandy Koufax may have been Kim's hero, but he will always be the real hero to his family.  He took extreme pride in his grandchildren Kellin Conkright, Keaton Roche, Jaron Roche, Damian Crabtree, William Crabtree, and Clayton Crabtree.  He never showed up to visit them without M&M's or Hot Wheels.  Kim has 2 brothers, Greg (Dawn) Lane and Gary Lane.  His father-in-law and mother-in-law are William and Joanna Keyt.  He is preceded in death by his parents Donald Max Miller and Ruth Spencer Lane, and grandparents Archie and Gladys Spencer as well as his two spoiled, beloved dogs Boscoe and Sadie whose ashes will be laid to rest with him.

Family and friends may call this Saturday, May 22 at Burkhart Funeral Home in Crawfordsville from 11 am until the time of services at 1 pm with Reverend Mike Whitacre officiating.  Burial will follow at Clinton Falls Cemetery.
