Josephine Maxine Anderson, formerly of Crawfordsville, passed away Wednesday afternoon at Hillcrest Village in Jeffersonville, Indiana at the age of 97.

Maxine was a long-time member of the First Assembly of God in Crawfordsville.  She attended school in Winchester, Illinois.  She taught in a one-room schoolhouse, then worked at R.R. Donnelley, where she met her husband.  She later worked in the school cafeteria and nursing home.

Born July 23, 1926 in Titusville, Florida, she was the daughter of Joseph Leitze and Jeanetta Belle Hammon Leitze.  She married Eugene "Andy" Anderson on Jan. 30, 1954 in Crawfordsville.  He passed away on Feb. 3, 2012.

Surviving family includes: daughter, Julie (Steve) Hester of Charlestown, Indiana; son, James D. (Karen) Anderson of St. Augustine, Florida; six granddaughters; nine great-grandsons; five great-granddaughters and four great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and a daughter, Mary Howard.

Visitation will be from Noon to 2 PM Tuesday, Jan. 16th at First Assembly of God, 2070 Lebanon Road.  Services will begin at 2 PM, led by Pastor Rich Fuller.  Burial will follow at Oak Hill Cemetery North.  Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.
