Obituary

John Herman Smith, formerly of Linnsburg, passed away Friday morning at Wellbrooke of Crawfordsville.  He was 78.

John worked in the printing business for 45 years.  After retiring, he worked as the night auditor for Days Inn for 11 years.  He was a member of the Eagles, Moose and American Legion Byron Cox Post 72 for 57 continuous years.  He enjoyed playing golf, bowling and was a fan of IU and the Colts, unless they were playing the Bears.  He served his country in the Indiana National Guard.

Born March 19, 1945 in Crawfordsville, he was the son of Charles H. Smith and Virginia Bell Price Smith.  He graduated from Crawfordsville High School, class of 1963 and did plate making apprenticeship with R. R. Donnelley and Sons.

Surviving family includes: brother, Charles H. "Chuck" Smith of Mace; two sisters, Virginia Sue "Ginny" Platt of Crawfordsville, Martha S. Purcell of New Ross; nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

There will not be a public visitation or service.  A private graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery South with Pastor Steve Whicker officiating.  Arrangements were entrusted to Burkhart Funeral Home.
