Edith Cheryl Hoover, 67, passed away peacefully in her home on April 24th, 2023 in Crawfordsville.

Born May 17, 1955 to Delbert and Arlene Robertson in Lafayette, Cheryl was one of five children. She is survived by her children Terry Robertson and Shelbi Hoover; grandson Ethan Robertson and daughter-in-law Jillian Tremblay; her dog Jodey; grand-dogs Shiloh, Juno, and Freja; and grand-cats Pepper, Moxie, Luna, Cooper, and Sam. She was preceded in death by her parents and beloved dogs Spike and Bo.

Cheryl retired from Raybestos where she served as President of USW Local 7-164. A proud union member, she completed multiple certifications, graduated from the Montgomery County Leadership Academy and the University of Illinois Labor Education Program, and spent time in Lázaro Cárdenas, Mexico, marching in solidarity with members of the Los Mineros Union. She also organized the charitable Heart Fund and many fundraisers to aid her fellow workers, raising thousands of dollars to support families in need. She fondly reminisced about her first-ever job detasseling corn in the summer of 1971, and had many adventures as a young woman working for a travel agency out of Hopkinsville, Kentucky. She was a strong supporter of animal rights and gave generously to animal welfare organizations.

She learned to crochet from her aunt Jessie as a young girl and independently mastered the craft over the course of her life; it brought her true joy to share her creations with others and she donated countless blankets, dish cloths, clothing, rugs, and other crocheted works. She was also a talented painter, wreath-maker, and general crafter, and she shared these skills with adults and youth in the community via library classes and after-school programs. A prolific reader, she leaves behind a large library of thrillers, mysteries, and her much-loved collection of Stephen King's works.

Cheryl was deeply loved, a treasure to those who knew her. Her easy warmth and generous nature were precious and will be forever missed.

A memorial service for friends and family will be held at a future date.
