Donald W. Ellis, 72, of Crawfordsville passed away peacefully Monday morning in his home after a short illness.

Don worked at Hi-Tek/Acuity for 45 years retiring from the maintenance department in 2018.  He was active in local softball and bowling leagues and a member of the Crawfordsville Eagles for many years. Being an avid lover of the outdoors, he enjoyed deer and turkey hunting. As a dedicated family man, he loved to travel and spend time with his family and joyfully attended the many events of his grandchildren.

Born Nov. 24, 1951 in Greencastle, he was the son of the late Melvin and Maxine (Knauer) Ellis.  He graduated from Greencastle High School in 1970 and served his country in the U.S. Army until 1977. He married Carol Remley on Oct. 22, 1978 in Crawfordsville. They recently celebrated 45 years of marriage.

Don will be fondly remembered by his wife, Carol Ellis, and their two daughters, Andra Ellis and Alison (Scott) Swick. He was also a proud grandfather to Trinity (Samantha) Ellis, Brody Pickett, Alexandra Stephens, Jonathan Dice, Nathaniel Dice and Carson Dice. He loved nothing more than rocking his great-grandchildren, Piper Pickett, Nora Pickett and Delanie Pickett. He was excitedly awaiting the arrival of a new great-granddaughter. He will be missed by his siblings, Kenneth Ellis, Wanda (Jim) Blume, Linda (Bob) Nichols, William (Shirley) Ellis, Russell (Janet) Ellis and Rose Ann Ellis.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, January 26th at Burkhart Funeral Home.  Services will be held on Saturday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with military rites by the American Legion Post 72 honor guard.
