Donald G. Burchett of Crawfordsville passed away Saturday morning at IU Health Methodist Hospital after a lengthy illness.  He was 73.

Donald was a mechanic and a very good one.  He worked as an alignment specialist, but could fix pretty much anything auto related.  He liked stock car racing as well as collecting coins and baseball cards.  Mostly, even in his spare time, he liked to work on vehicles.

Born Jan. 17, 1953 in Lafayette, he was the son of Ray Burchett and Mildred Smith Burchett.  He was raised in the New Richmond area.  He graduated from Southwestern H.S., class of 1971.  He started dating Sherry Alpha in 1979 and they were married in 1983.

Surviving family includes: wife, Sherry Burchett; three children, Kristina (Dave) Gehring, Ingrid Alpha, Ray (Erika) Burchett; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; sister, Jo Ann Chapman.

A visitation will be held Monday, July 27th from 3 to 4 PM at Burkhart Funeral Home, 201 West Wabash, Crawfordsville.  Memorial services will begin at 4 PM.
