David Rex Riggins passed away Friday, January 8.

Born October 18, 1946 in Lebanon, Indiana, he was the son of the late Alice Riggins Gross.

Surviving family includes his wife, Janiece Riggins; sons Joseph David Riggins and Terry Ray Riggins; daughter Tamora (Joe) Beegle; brother Larry (Joy) Riggins, their son Justin (Jen) Riggins and family, and their daughter Charity (Phil) Kumpf and family; sister Paula (Chuck) Newton and family; grandchildren Christopher Gaius Riggins and Eric Bjorn Riggins.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.

He was a United States Navy Veteran.

David was a member of the Memphis Sport Shooting Association, Masonic Lodge, Air Traffic Controller Area Manager and a Lifetime Member of the NRA. He was also a car and motorcycle enthusiast, knew all about airplanes, loved meteorology, played baseball in high school, loved cheese, White Castle burgers and John Deere.

He loved, above all, animals. He gave generously to animal charities and rescued many dogs, loved ducks, knew all about English, Irish and Scottish history and loved reading and expanding his knowledge.

A private family service will be held 2:00 PM, Sunday January 17 ^th at Burkhart Funeral Home with Pastor Gary Edwards officiating.  Military rites will be performed by members of the U.S. Navy.  Burial will follow at the Shannondale Cemetery.
