David Crane of Crawfordsville passed away Sunday night at Franciscan Health of Lafayette.  He was 85.

Mr. Crane served in the National Guard.  During high school, he worked as a caddy at the Crawfordsville Country Club.  During his adult life he worked at R. R. Donnelley and Schloot Furniture.  He loved people and never knew a stranger.  He was a jokester whose goal each day was to make someone laugh.

Born March 5, 1938 in Crawfordsville, he was the son of Thomas Crane and Freida Kincaid Crane.  He married Sharon Kay Young on Dec. 19, 1959 and they celebrated 62 happy years together before her passing on June 4, 2022.

Surviving family includes: children, Cathy (Ivan) O'Neal, Ronda Thompson, Thomas (Tracy) Crane, Kylie Lowe, J.C. (Jamie) Crane, Tiffany (Jason) Kelly; bonus kids that he and Sharon raised, Carol Grimes, Ray Grooms, Phil Grooms and Teresa Grooms; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren with another on the way; four sisters, Judy Kreighbaum, Julia Fisher, Sally Hayes and Peggy Cornett; two brothers, Fred Crane and John Crane; along with many nieces nephews and friends, including his faithful companion, Jesse.

He was preceded in death by a bonus daughter, Elaine Grooms, brother, John Thomas Crane and two sisters, Marilyn Cook and Susie Hayes.

In keeping with his wishes, there will not be a visitation or funeral.  His family will hold a graveside service with military honors at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery at a later date.  Arrangements were made through Burkhart Funeral Home.
