Darla Kay Howlett

Darla Kay Howlett, age 79, passed away in the early morning of August 24, 2026 surrounded by her family.

Born in Shelbyville, Illinois to Robert James and Gladys Bechtel Wiseman on November 11, 1946. Darla received her Master’s degree from Indiana State and taught for 32 years all at Crawfordsville High School and Tuttle Middle School. Darla married Don Howlett on June 8, 1968 and he preceded her in death on April 1, 2022. She enjoyed bowling, reading and sewing. She also loved her slot machines.

Darla is lovingly survived by her son, Damon (Stephanie) Howlett; grandchildren, Taylor (Keith) Sims, Austin (Kiersten) Long, and Peyton (Elyssa) Long; great-grandchildren, Lincoln and Avery Sims, Reed and Addie Long, and Sophie and Liam Long; and sister, LeeAnn (Steve) Nickless; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Darla is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Don; and one brother.

A private family service will be held Wednesday, August 26 at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville. The family requests the omission of flowers.
