Carolyne L. Smith of Crawfordsville passed away Wednesday morning at Bickford of Crawfordsville at the age of 86.

Carolyne loved music, reading, and her family.  She was a founding member of Woodland Heights Christian Church and worked as the church secretary for many years.  After leaving her position at WHCC she did administrative work at Fleetwood.

Born Oct. 19, 1937 in Kingman, Indiana, she was the daughter of Fred Hughes and Lela Lawson Hughes.  She graduated from Waveland High School and Indiana Business College.

Surviving family includes: daughter, Laura Eckart (Bob) of Greenwood, Indiana; son, James Christopher Mitchell of Crawfordsville, son-in-law Darrell Wiatt of Russellville;  eight grandchildren, Adrienne Eckart, Jeremy Eckart, Tyler Eckart (Shannon), Darren Wiatt (Renee), Darrick Wiatt (Lauren), Mallory Eckart, Ben Wiatt (Kayla), Bethany Bryan (Grant), twelve great-grandchildren, along with several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and a daughter, Cindy Wiatt. Carolyne was the youngest of seven and all six of her older siblings preceded her in death, along with a few of her nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 11 AM to 1 PM Tuesday, Sept, 17th at Burkhart Funeral Home 201 West Wabash Avenue.  Services will begin at 1 PM.  After the service, she will be laid to rest at Indian Creek Hill Cemetery.
