Leonard Dale of Crawfordsville passed away Friday morning at Franciscan East in Lafayette. He was 92.

Mr. Dale retired from Kroger's bakery before starting Dale's Woodshop, where he restored antique wooden items and made cabinets, shelves and furniture.  Additionally, Leonard was a Deputy Sheriff, owned his own bakery, deliveryman for Omar Bakery and worked as a body repairman at Perry Lewis Ford.  He was very active with the boy scouts, where he served as Troop Leader for many years.

Born Sept. 21, 1927 in Randolph County, Indiana, he was the son of James Melvin Dale and Clara Virgil Wood Dale.  He graduated from Bryant High School in 1945, where he was on the basketball and baseball teams.  He married Carol Richey in 1946.  He married C. Sue Farley on April 4, 1965.  She passed away May 21, 2020.

Surviving family includes: five daughters, Linda Kay Meyer (Lance) of Chesterfield, Rhonda Mae Joseph of Pendleton, Patty Sue Caudill (Roger) of Anderson, Donna Jean Campbell (Terry) of Anderson, Peggy Jo Crowder of Goose Creek, South Carolina; one son, Charles "Chuck" Leonard Dale, Jr. of Cudahy, Wisconsin; twelve grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his beloved wife of 55 years, Sue Dale, three brothers, three sisters, a grandson, Robert Lance Meyer, Jr., a granddaughter, Ashley Nicole Crowder and two great-grandchildren.

He was a faithful member of Fremont St. Baptist Church, where he made the cookies for Junior Church every Sunday for more than 30 years.

Visitation will be from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM on June 23 at Burkhart Funeral Home, Crawfordsville.  Graveside services will be at 2 PM at Oak Hill Cemetery North, led by Pastor Dan Aldrich.
